Time for choices

So, America has finally chosen.

Obama will be the one that will run against McCain for the presidency.

Maybe because I’m eternally undecided, but, as I stated in a previous post, I still cannot make up my mind if I like Obama or not. Even if, between him and McCain, I’d rather have him. Well, I suppose.

What is sure is that, after the last Italian elections (and the slogans, the videos and everything), I cannot look at Obama without being reminded of Veltroni. And, alas, I must confess I wouldn’t be able to choose between the two, either.

I must be allergic to decisions.

Except, now that I think about it, I wouldn’t have any possible doubt if I was left to choose between Berlusconi and McCain.

…O, say, does that
Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free
And the home of the brave?

The God of Small Things

In this rather dark period for Italy, a small reason to rejoice. Thinking more about it, not so small, really. Not for me, at least. It’s indeed a small thing only when compared to other more serious matters.

And actually, today there is another small reason to rejoice. In fact I would even have changed the post photo.

Only, I couldn’t find one showing the expression the Joker face had today, at about 5 o’clock.

Paint it Black

From Bioetica. But Chiara Lalli posted it on Saturday. Either she can read the future, or she’s a pessimist. Or she was just being realistic, and I’m too optimist. I fear the last one is the right answer.

Good news, bad news

The good news is that finally Luciano Maiani has now been formally nominated as president of CNR.

The bad news is that On. Sra. Carlucci has just been re-elected as MP in the chamber of deputies. Well, actually will be re-elected. She has in fact been awarded the n. 13 in the electoral lists for Puglia. A position which is sure to grant a place in the Italian parliament, given the present electoral law.

All as expected.

I don’t have much to add, I’ve basically said it all in previous posts. But maybe somebody’s else words could be somehow appropriate as a comment. Here is a declaration that Berlusconi had made sunday in Como:

“…it has been said I had put forward showgirls as candidates, but I’d do other things with showgirls rather than put them in an electoral party list.”

I’d also do other things with Berlusconi rather than put him in an electoral list. But I bet the things we’re talking about aren’t exactly the same.

The Business

From yesterday’s newspapers. After the critics from the Vatican to the movie “Caos Calmo”, triggered by the explicit scenes featuring Nanni Moretti and Isabella Ferrari, the director Steven Frears has declared:

“Why don’t you Italians get rid of the Vatican ? You can try to sell it to Berlusconi.”

Fascinating idea. And not too unrealistic, either. Synergies, common strategies, complementary market segments … the old tycoon could indeed be interested, even if Vatican’s audience must have taken quite a hit since the times of the former CEO, John Paul II.

Only, I have the impression the deal had already been concluded. Since quite some time, actually.
